Sept. 16, 2019

Hi everyone,

I made this video last Monday.

UBC Hong Kong Protest with a Jew & a Palestinian, Leads to Facebook Storm over “Neo-Nazi” Brian Ruhe

I went to UBC with Dave to cover the protest for Hong Kong. I have a shorter version of the video too. Dave described the event as “a nothing burger” but when the UBC Free Speech Club later posted on Facebook the below statement about me, the event became about “not being affiliated with neo-Nazi, white supremacist, Holocaust denier Brian Ruhe”. Their over the top unfair post about me led to over 100 comments and please go to their Facebook page and leave a comment of your own, at:

In this video I refer to two videos where I debate with Armin Navabi and Travis Pangburn. They are:

Some people have made note that local neo-Nazi Brian Ruhe attended our recent protest in support of the people of Hong Kong at UBC.

The UBC Free Speech Club has no affiliation with Brian Ruhe and unequivocally condemns his support for Nazism, white supremacy, and holocaust denial. These are not the values of our club, and people like Brian Ruhe are not welcome in our organization.

Unfortunately, we cannot force people to leave our protests. That being said, we informed Ruhe when he arrived that we want no affiliation with him, that we do not in any way condone his views, and he is not welcome in our organization.

Our club is dedicated to protecting free speech for all people, especially victims of evil forces like Nazism.

The other free speech club is the  Students For Freedom of Expression. I bought the $10 ticket and will go this Thursday to see Armin, who I did the above two videos with. Please join me!

Armin Navabi will talk about how history and religion impede the possibility of reconciliation in the Israel-Palestine debate.

About this Event

Armin Navabi is an Iranian Canadian, who is an ex-Muslim atheist and secular activist, author and podcaster. He founded an online free thought community called Atheist Republic which is a non-profit organization for secularists around the world to discuss irreligion, apostasy and blasphemy where it is often repressed and even criminalized. He has travelled across the world to discuss religious criticism and was deplatformed at Calgary’s Mount Royal University for attempting to discuss Islam.

At the event, Navabi will be addressing the question of Israel and Palestine, narrowing his scope to the topics of history and religiosity that has surrounded this debate – impeding the possibility of reconciliation starting from a grassroots level. Navabi intends to construct his views along the lines of the experiences he had when travelling to both Israel and Palestine, deconstructing socio-political stigmas both within the region, and stigmas existing in the eyes of their neighbours.

This event will take place at the Earth and Ocean Sciences building, room 2012 at UBC Vancouver campus on Thursday, September 19th, from 7 pm until 10 pm. Tickets $10
